I really enjoyed your post about Bad Magic. ...Nina,
I really enjoyed your post about Bad Magic. I reminded me of two books that I have read in the past. The first book I thought of was Holes by Louis Sacher. This book is about a boy who is framed for something that he didn't do and is sent to a detention camp that is run by a diabolical warden.

I was also reminded of Lord of the Flies, mostly because of the boar hunts that you mentioned. :) But I also thought that the theme you identified "things aren't always as they seem" is also present in Lord of the Flies. This book might be one that you read later in high school.

I am curious as to whether or not you have seen that same theme is any other books that you have read. I would love to hear about them if you have!

Thanks for the book review! I am always looking for new reading material!
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11790588775872078608noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5032699041078089093.post-92125148213336466012014-10-29T10:04:38.996-05:002014-10-29T10:04:38.996-05:00Great review of the book. Yes, I love landing in foreign places myself!

In case you or your kids would be interested, I create a cool document that points out how you can learn more about Cook's voyage. How to imagine what it must have been like living on a ship for 3 years, meeting "undiscovered" people, finding hundreds of new creatures. It's on my Website (www.fidosopher.com) here:
http://bit.ly/11yitmk

All best to you on your voyages, as well, Michael J. Rosen
Michael J. The thing I liked most about the book, other then the message, is that each "Part" gives you a different character's perception of what's happening. I would encourage students and adults to read this book!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16012486925407936277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5032699041078089093.post-52664578623013155852012-10-21T18:38:34.949-05:002012-10-21T18:38:34.949-05:00I think that the Red King book is asome. From Unkn...I think that the Red King book is asome. From UnknownAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5032699041078089093.post-5982392106371123402012-10-05T20:37:09.076-05:002012-10-05T20:37:09.076-05:00Ernie that's awesome....Ernie that's awesome....aunt gingernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5032699041078089093.post-86845803787597762912012-10-04T06:40:02.765-05:002012-10-04T06:40:02.765-05:00hello my name amelia, i like roxy becos she is a d...hello my name amelia, i like roxy becos she is a diamond.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5032699041078089093.post-2884939369044627552012-10-02T09:34:11.584-05:002012-10-02T09:34:11.584-05:00It is one of several response ideas I borrowed fro...It is one of several response ideas I borrowed from Teri Lesesne's book READING LADDERS (http://www.heinemann.com/products/E01726.aspx) - a slim, accessible and practical book about guiding students in real reading and response that is rigorous and relevant.
